Dr. Suraj Juddoo is currently the Executive Director of the Mauritius Digital Promotion Agency which caters for digital proficiency courses with a planned one focused on basic AI concepts and also promoting open data in the country. He is also the Chairperson of the Mauritius Emerging Technologies Council, whose main focus is to advise the Government on the use of Emerging Technologies. Suraj Juddoo had an extensive career in academic, research and consultancy. He has been involved in research surrounding Big Data in the health care sector as part of a doctoral work towards optimizing data quality. He applied AI as part of the methodology with the aim of automating the data quality lifecycle. He has been publishing in various conferences in topics related to Big Data, Machine learning and other IT related fields. He is involved in cross disciplinary research by working with co-researchers from Mauritius, UK, USA, Brazil, Italy and China. He has been part of several externally funded research projects and is still currently involved in many initiatives such as being country level expert for responsible AI deployment.

Dr Laurie Butgereit works primarily as a Java Developer who specializes in integrating various AI capabilities into existing applications through the use of OpenAI’s GPT API. She also holds a research appointment at Nelson Mandela University in South Africa. In the previous two years, Dr Butgereit has been creating AI based tutoring bots in a variety of academic subjects which communicate with users in a variety of human languages including Arabic, Mauritian Creole, Seychellois Creole, Zulu, Shona, Sesotho, Ndebele, Afrikaans, English and Amharic. Dr Butgereit’s keynote talk will focus on the types of people required on a research team implementing and investigating the use of AI tutoring bots in education and research as this is a merged conference with both researchers and “techies”.

Dr Sipra Das Bit is a Professor of the Department of Computer Science and Technology, Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur, India. She also served as a Visiting Professor in the Department of ICT, AIT, Bangkok in 2017. She is a recipient of the Career Award for Young Teachers from the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE). She has more than 30 years of teaching and research experience. Professor Das Bit has published many research papers in reputed journals and refereed International conference proceedings. She also has four books/monographs to her credit. Her current research interests include IoT, wireless sensor network, delay tolerant network, and mobile computing. Sipra has delivered invited talks in US universities such as UCSD, UMKC, CALPOLY and UIOWA. She was also the tutorial speaker in many international events including IEEE TENSYMP and IEEE ANTS conferences. She has served on many TPCs and acted as reviewer of IEEE, Elsevier journals, etc. Sipra along with her team won the best survey paper award in 2022 from JNCA (Journal of Network and Computer Application), Elsevier. She is also a Senior Member of IEEE.
